AUBURN PRO-DAY...(PT. 1)

Posted on March 4 2014 by @whoke10 in AU PRO-DAY

Auburn held it's pro day today at the indoor practice facility and it turned out to be a very productive day for the NFL hopefuls from the plains. Greg Robinson showed up but wisely decided to lean on his outstanding combine numbers, Robinson is a lock as a top five pick in the draft and we have him going #2 to St. Louis. Tre Mason also stood on his numbers from Indy but was there talking to several teams, Mason has secured a spot as one of the best, if not the best (RB) in this class. Dee Ford dominated the Senior Bowl and had scouts buzzing but at the combine, after his remarks about Clowney, the medical staff held him out of drills which had some scouts wondering about his durability but Ford answered the bell with a very impressive pro day. Chris Davis wowed with his vertical and Jay Prosch showed the scouts who didn't get a chance to see him, due to getting snubbed by the combine, how much of a hulking (FB) he really is. Former Tigers Will Herring and Demetruce McNeal also worked today for the scouts.

***DEE FORD...(DE/OLB)...6' 3" 244lbs......(1st round, 27th pick-Saints)

took 29 reps bench-press 225lbs.

35 1/2" vertical...10' 4" broad

4.53 40 yard dash...

After Ford made his comments about being better than J. Clowney some/most of the media thought he was crazy. Ford backed it all up today outdoing Clowney in nearly every drill, Clowney did jump 2" higher than Ford but the AU star had 7 more bench reps and tied Clowney in the 40 which is what had the combine buzzing about the S. Carolina star. Ford made himself a sure fire 1st round pick after his MVP performance at the Senior Bowl along with todays eye popping numbers.

***CHRIS DAVIS...(CB/KR)...5' 9" 200lbs......(3rd-5th round pick)

DNP bench press

40 1/2" vertical(WOW)...10' 4" broad

4.5 40 yard dash

Davis who is famous for the kick 6' winning FG return to beat Alabama is now wanting to be known as a NFL caliber corner. After a productive week at the Senior bowl he got some looks from scouts and it seems that he has done even more to impress since. Today his unreal vertical of 40 1/2" had scouts humming because Davis has the speed, they know now he has the leaps but his reports say his coverage can be spotty so these impressive numbers show that he has the skills to play in the league. Add the fact Davis is a lethal kick returner to his resume and that adds up to him being a mid to late round pick.

***JAY PROSCH...(FB/HB)...6' 7/8" 254lbs.......(5th round-free agent)

27 reps bench press 225lbs

32" vertical...9' 1" broad

4.7 40 yard dash

Jay Prosch is the top (FB) in this class but he didn't get the invite to the NFL combine last week. He did have a first chance to impress scouts at the Senior bowl in Mobile and he helped himself out a lot today at pro day. Prosch is that old school battering ram type of player and his skill set isn't desired by every team in the league but whatever team lands this "freak athlete" as CBS sports Bruce Fieldman called him, will have a guy who can blow up any linebacker that comes his way. If he is not drafted don't worry, he will make a squad.

PT. 2 we will have times and stats from every player that worked out today at AU PRO-DAY

Dee Ford proved he is the #1 DE in this class, Clowney might be a freakier athlete but Ford is a smarter and he wants it more like u said a few weeks ago.

I agree to a certain extent Slammy, Ford def backed up his taunts to Clowney as he showed him, whatever you can do, I can do as well. The only think J.C. did better than Dee was 2" in the vert. and Ford matched the eye popping 40 J.C. ran in Indy. So in my opinion I would pass on Clowney in the top 5 , work a trade for picks and take Ford later in the draft. Ford seems to have a much higher football IQ and being a 3 star recruit who has always had to push harder to be elite I know Ford would give 100% and we still aren't sure about Clowney's heart.
