AU legend Stephen Davis's son has AU on top in recruiting

Posted on March 11 2014 by @whoke10 in recruiting

Stephen Davis Jr. 2016...(4 star) (S)...6'3" 187lbs.

Stephen Davis Jr. was offered by Auburn around one year ago and shortly after he was interviewed by local media at a Hoover 7 on 7 event and he didn't sound to thrilled about the Tigers program at the time. Well one year has passed since the remarks about Auburn and a lot has happened in that one year that has changed the younger Davis's thoughts about Auburn. He was in Auburn for the second time in a bit over three months this past weekend, the previous being the Iron Bowl which had an effect on every prospect in attendance, that turned in several 2014 recruits but it really set Malzhan and company for the 2015 and later recruiting cycles. After leaving this weekend the younger Davis (a 2016 prospect) said Auburn is on top now after a weekend where he spent time with coaches Craig and Garner, Craig played with Davis Sr. at Auburn while Garner actually recruited Davis Sr. to Auburn so there was a connection there.

Davis Jr. actually seemed blown away from his time with Gus Malzhan, he said "he is a great coach" and "I could see me playing for him" which is exactly what AU fans want to hear. Malzhan and his staff sold something to these prospects, an idea of how they were going to win championships at Auburn and several big recruits bought right in, others had a magical season to watch these same coaches who were selling an idea take a team from worst to first with a SEC title and playing in the BCS title game never hurts recruiting. What Davis Jr. and many other prospects saw was a coach and his staff promise a turnaround quickly, they just did it faster than anybody could have thought which gives Malzhan and his staff more recruiting clout. I believe the reason's for his swing towards the Tigers has to do with the fact the coaches got him on campus, that's huge because Auburn is such a beautiful place that one can't help but admire it. When he got to campus earlier he saw the greatest college football game ever' a game still talked about and broken down daily in the 2013 Iron Bowl. His second visit he and his father spent time with coaches Craig and Garner which let's Davis Sr. know his son is in good hands. Gus Malzhan impressing the prospect is key, and he mainly saw what Malzhan and his staff were telling him before they ever coached at Auburn was true, and now Malzhan already has Auburn set up for winning in the future, Gus backed it all up.....
